2016 Congressional Fly-in Concludes
Nearly 70 executives from across the vinyl value chain gathered last week in Washington, DC to meet with Members of Congress and discuss specific issues that resonate across the industry. With 104 different meetings scheduled, our members reached a large section of Congress and explained the importance of vinyl manufacturing in each congressional district.
Participants hit on four key issues this year: water infrastructure, chemical regulation, international trade, and housing – all key to the growth and success of our industry going forward.
The 2016 Fly-in was as much about the issues as it was about planning for the results of the election in November. Congress is traditionally less engaged right before a presidential election so this was also an opportunity to discuss a number of issues that are likely to come up in the lame duck session after the election and over the course of 2017.
“The 2016 Vinyl Industry Congressional Fly-In was a tremendous success and demonstrates what we can achieve when we work together as an industry,” said VI CEO, Dick Doyle. “Over sixty vinyl industry executives engaged 104 Congressional Offices on our industry’s key issues, including Water Infrastructure, Trade, Housing and Chemical Safety. The Fly-In is an instrumental part of our overall Federal Advocacy strategy, and provides a key forum for advancing our industry’s interests in providing quality products to meet society’s needs.”
Though the Fly-in is over, the follow up has just begun. VI will be following up on each meeting and continue working to grow support for our key issues and build stronger relationships with policy makers. Participants are also encouraged to continue their own outreach by getting to know staff in district offices and by inviting representatives to tour your facility. Plant tours are a very effective way of building good relationships with your representatives and showing the value your company provides to the community.
We would like to thank our participants for all their dedication and hard work. We could not have done if without you!
