Earth Day, Green Schools, and Material for Life

Earth Day 2017 is April 22, and this year’s themes are science and schools.

We applaud. Science is at the heart of everything we do.

It’s why the vinyl industry has worked hard to explain the science behind the PVC, and why we talk about how to separate the science from the pseudofacts. It’s why we understand the very-real resource constraints facing our planet, and why the industry has embarked on a rigorous sustainability journey.

More important, it’s why from the resin factory floor to finished products, vinyl is a material built on sound science and constructed to be sustainable for the long term. It’s the reason that vinyl is so perfectly suited to green schools.

For Earth Day 2017, let’s focus on vinyl, science, and green schools.

The Earth Day organizers have highlighted some facts about green schools, including better air quality and environmentally friendly products. Indeed, designers are already rethinking classrooms and other school spaces, including natural light, good ventilation, and low VOC products that can be cleaned without extensive use of chemicals.

Vinyl products fit right into green school design.

Vinyl products, from wallcovering and shades to floors and upholstery, are designed to be durable, long-lasting, and easy to clean. This frees up personnel (less time cleaning), limits the use of harmful chemical cleansers on surfaces and in the air, and saves schools and school districts money by extending the lifecycle of the products in its schools.

PVC wiring is efficient to produce, recyclable, and inherently resistant to ignition. Its fire-resistant properties make it a terrific choice for the high-tech wiring that more and more schools are installing to bring high-tech learning into their classrooms.
