VI Launches an Instagram… and a Social Media Competition
The Vinyl Institute (VI) has launched an Instagram account, @MaterialForLife. On there you will find images and videos that highlight interesting vinyl applications in use and education on the benefits of the material. Instagram is an online mobile photo and video-sharing social network service that will enable us to educate and engage with new audiences, including the architecture and interior design students who are the designers and product specifiers of the future.
Engaging Architecture Students through Plastics in Outdoor Architecture
VI has partnered with the American Institute of Architecture Students (AIAS) to educate and actively engage architecture students on plastics as solutions for design challenges — while putting a microscope on vinyl and vinyl applications. This will allow a better perspective of vinyl as a material and how it can be used, as materials classes have phased out of traditional college curricula.
Together, we are launching the first in a series of social media competitions via Instagram. This first contest is called Plastics in Outdoor Architecture. As spring has arrived, we are asking students to post original, interesting photos of plastic applications in outdoor architecture.
The London Olympic Stadium includes 25,500 square-meter white vinyl-coated polyester fabric.
Meeting Architecture Students Where They Are
AIAS is an independent, nonprofit, student-run organization dedicated to providing unmatched progressive programs, information and resources on issues critical to architecture and the experience of education.
Partnering with AIAS allows us to help meet their mission, as they help us engage with architecture students. AIAS has over 1,000 followers on Instagram and continuous engagement and success with competitions via social media.
VI will continue to work with AIAS to engage and educate this audience. We will launch more social media competitions in the future, as well as develop a series of blog posts that will take a deeper dive into vinyl, vinyl applications and where vinyl is positioned within plastics.
