Vinyl Institute Supports End of US – UK Section 232 Steel and Aluminum Tariffs
Washington D.C. – February 3, 2022 — The Vinyl Institute has joined a letter from 174 trade association asking government leaders to replicate the successful U.S.-EU multi-sector statement for the industries in the U.S. and U.K. that have been negatively impacted by the Section 232 steel and aluminum dispute. The letter also requests leaders issue a joint call to end the tariffs on all the unrelated sectors that have been caught up in the dispute.
“Open competition, including fair trade is important to the PVC industry,” said Ned Monroe, President and CEO of the Vinyl Institute. “Last year PVC was unfortunately caught in a trade dispute between airline manufacturers which imposed tariffs on PVC imported into the United Kingdom. We make high quality PVC here in the US that is sold around the globe. And we need to ensure that markets remain open.”
On January 19, the U.S. and U.K. issued a joint press statement announcing the start of bilateral discussions in the Section 232 steel and aluminum dispute, including the U.K.’s retaliatory tariffs on certain U.S. exports to the U.K.
