Vinyl Institute to Present Industry Update and Session on Exploring Elements of a Good Scientific Study at IOM3 PVC 2021 Conference in May
May 3, 2021
WASHINGTON, DC – The Vinyl Institute (VI), the leading U.S. trade association representing manufacturers of vinyl, vinyl chloride monomer (VCM), additives, and modifers, will present two sessions during the Institute of Materials, Minerals, & Mining (IOM3) triennial conference PVC 2021 from May 10-12.
PVC 2021 is the leading global forum for the vinyl industry. It brings together industry stakeholders from around the world to discuss the global market and the most relevant trends and topics.
Richard Krock, VI Senior VP of Regulatory and Technical Affairs, will provide an update on the U.S. and Canadian vinyl industry, where he will discuss opportunities and challenges facing resin, compound, and product manufacturers in this region. In addition, Krock will touch on the Vinyl Sustainability Council’s new sustainability initiative, +Vantage Vinyl™.
“Part of our work with the VI includes keeping a pulse of our production capabilities, performance metrics, and sustainability progress,” Krock said. “I look forward to sharing the U.S. and Canadian perspective and discussing how collaboration from many geographic regions can result in global success.”
Domenic DeCaria, VI Technical Director, will present “Defending Without Being Defensive (or Offensive!),” which will explore the elements of a good scientific study, how to tell when a claim is unfair, and what to consider when responding to allegations about safety and environmental performance. The review concludes with some approaches to engaging stakeholders in a positive way while addressing the cause for concern related to negative claims.
“Emotional storytelling is a great way to communicate with markets about the products they use every day,” DeCaria said. “Unfortunately, there are a lot of stories based on exaggerated claims and false associations, unfairly creating negative beliefs about a product or an entire industry. It’s important that those are addressed with a combination of accuracy and empathy, and with an openness to working with all stakeholders.”
